A large oval form burns at the centre of the canvas. Orange, red and yellow brushstrokes turn on themselves, layered like the surface of a star or a yolk seen against the light. Around it, a halo of acid green separates it from the blue ground like a field of energy.

The composition

It is a very simple composition — three areas of colour, one inside the other — yet full of movement. The brushstrokes are never still: they all follow the same circular direction, so the whole form seems to rotate slowly.

The contrast between the warm centre and the cool ground is at its maximum: orange and blue are complementary colours and enhance each other. Green, halfway between them, acts as a cushion and a vibration.

The meaning

Nucleus recalls a sun, a cell, a heart, a seed: everything that contains energy and life within. It is a painting about the essential, about what remains when everything superfluous is taken away.

Who it is for

A warm, luminous work, perfect for a living room or dining room: it brings the feeling of a lit hearth into the space.

The poem · original Italian

Nucleo
