At the centre of the canvas, a large black circle with a golden-yellow heart. Around it, arranged like the numbers on a dial, eight smaller circles: black and red discs with golden centres at the corners, solid green and blue circles at the sides.
A solar system
It is impossible not to think of a planetary system: a central star and its planets in orbit, each with its own colour and light. Or an old record player and its vinyls, a clock without hands, a mandala. Simple forms open up endless associations.
Balance
The composition is built on perfect symmetry, but the colours make it dynamic: the black discs lie on one diagonal, the red on the other; green sits at top and bottom, blue at left and right. Each pair answers the other across the centre, as in a dialogue.
The material
The colours are applied with a grainy, matt, velvety texture that gives the forms an almost tactile presence. The gold of the centres catches the light and becomes the point the eye is drawn to.
