A large circle dominates the canvas: a ring of gold, then a deep black disc dotted with glints like a starry sky, and finally a small red heart at the centre. All around, arranged like a frame, twenty small coloured circles — red, green, yellow, blue, lilac — sparkle like precious stones.
The mandala
In Indian and Tibetan tradition the mandala is a circular design representing the universe and used for meditation: the gaze starts at the periphery and moves towards the centre. The Centre of the World works in the same way. It is impossible not to be drawn towards that red point, the fulcrum of everything.
The black sky
The black disc is not empty: the glittering surface fills it with small reflections, like a night full of stars. It is a living, inhabited darkness that holds light rather than erasing it.
The crown
The twenty outer circles, all different in colour, follow a precise symmetry: each colour has its counterpart on the other side. They are like planets around the sun, or petals around the heart of a flower.
It is one of the most representative works of the Geometries of Light collection.
Intorno girano i colori, venti piccole lune, come i giorni intorno a un nome, come i pensieri intorno a chi amiamo.
