Geometries of Light
Circles, squares and glitter
Perfect circles, half-moons and two-coloured squares arranged with rigour on a white or black ground, brought to life by a sparkling surface. A study of order, symmetry and light that changes with the viewer.
After the freedom of the gesture comes the rigour of form. In this collection the canvas is organised along an invisible grid: circles, half-moons and squares split into two colours, arranged in precise symmetries, almost like mosaic tiles or the letters of an ancient alphabet.
Yet the material is never cold. The acrylic paint is enriched with a grainy, glittering surface that catches the light: the works change appearance with the time of day and the position of the viewer, sparkling under a lamp and turning soft and velvety in daylight.
These paintings converse with the great tradition of geometric abstraction — from Kandinsky to Op Art — but with a warm, handmade imperfection that keeps them alive. At the centre of many compositions there is a larger circle, a sun or an eye, around which everything revolves.
