Five horizontal bands follow one another on the white canvas, like the lines of a short poem. Two magenta bands, at the top and bottom, close the composition like brackets. In the middle, a wide green and yellow band. Between them, two narrower and denser ridges of olive green and midnight blue, edged with a bright yellow.
Two ways of painting
The wide bands were laid with an almost dry brush, dragged quickly: the bristles leave thin streaks and let the white beneath show through, so the colour seems to vibrate like fabric or grass moving in the wind. The narrow ridges, by contrast, are thick and textured, almost in relief, with a yellow edge that makes them glow.
Lightness and weight, transparency and density: the painting lives on this alternation.
The rhythm
The title speaks of breaths: each band is an inhalation, each white space a pause. It is a work that invites you to slow down, to look calmly, to follow the rhythm from top to bottom and back again.
Who it is for
A serene, luminous painting, suited to bedrooms, studies, reading rooms or spaces for meditation.
The poem · original Italian
Cinque respiri
Uno: il magenta del mattino. Due: l’erba che si sveglia. Tre: l’acqua verde, lenta. Quattro: la notte, stretta, bordata d’oro. Cinque: ancora il magenta, perché ogni giorno finisce come è cominciato.
E tra un respiro e l’altro il bianco: lo spazio dove non succede niente e dove, finalmente, riposo.
