The Door
La porta (original Italian title)

It is the most architectural work in the catalogue. On a large vertical black field, dozens of luminous elements are arranged: rectangles, L shapes, thin bars. Yellow along the perimeter, turquoise and green in the middle band, pink and pearl towards the centre, where a long vertical yellow bar runs through the whole composition like an axis.
The stained glass
The black acts as lead, the colours as glass: the effect is that of a cathedral window or a decorated portal. The glittering surfaces catch the light like coloured glass with the sun shining through. But the rigorous geometry, made of right angles and symmetries, also recalls Art Deco, traditional textiles, labyrinths.
A door
The perfect symmetry and the vertical format, proportioned like a door panel, suggest the title. It is a door that does not open onto a room but onto an inner space: the elements become smaller and lighter towards the centre, as in a perspective corridor leading towards the light.
Its presence
A work of great impact that needs space. On a light wall the black becomes a deep void from which the colours emerge; under raking light, the glitter turns the surface into a small night sky.
